Challenge 1:

What’s the roughest terrain you can cover? Experiment with different gear ratios and feel free to use your own wheels or other parts.

To submit, post a video of your experiment to your favorite video sharing site (i.e. Facebook, Vine, etc.), and email us the link along with your first name, and hometown/state to university@myatoms.com.

Challenge 2:

What’s the steepest hill you can climb?

Use a piece of wood, or anything you can find for a ramp, and stack books at one end to adjust the angle. Use a protractor to measure the angle.

Experiment with different gear ratios, motor power (knob setting), and feel free to use your own wheels or other parts.

To submit, post a video of your experiment to your favorite video sharing site (i.e. Facebook, Vine, etc.), and email us the link along with your first name, hometown/state, and angle-steepness result to university@myatoms.com.

If you don’t have a protractor, you can get triggy with it by measuring the length of your ramp, and the height at the end of the ramp. Then go to wolframalpha.com (an online calculator), and calculate for “arccos(height/lengthOfRamp)” to get the angle.
